This unit deals with the provision of advanced first aid resuscitation techniques, life support, and management of casualty(s), until the arrival of medical or other assistance, and provision of support to other providers.
Certification
Participants who successfully complete the course will be awarded Swinburne University of Technology Nationally Accredited certification. Annual refresher training in CPR, AED and oxygen resuscitation is required to maintain certification.

Prerequisites
In general it is recommended that people using advanced resuscitation techniques have completed HLTFA301B Apply First Aid. However, it is recognised that some employers require staff to be able to apply advanced resuscitation techniques without requiring this first aid competency. Application of these skills and knowledge will be adapted as required to address specific industry, enterprise or workplace requirements and to address specific risks, hazards and associated injuries.
Skills
Apply appropriate resuscitation techniques, including:
- Oxygen safe handling and storage
- Prepare resuscitation equipment for use
- Apply bag and mask resuscitation techniques
- Use of Oropharangeal airways
- Attach and operate an AED
- Administer oxygen via therapy and IPPV
- Operate suction equipment
- Restore and maintain equipment ready for future use
